The Salt Project Website Has a New Look

The Salt Project website has a new look as part of a broader theme unification across the Salt Project website and documentation, bringing a single unified blog feed, local search, and tag-based filtering. These updates also include updates to how the RSS feeds work, such as the security feed.

POP and Idem Projects Will Soon be Archived

POP and Idem projects have been in maintenance mode since the acquisition of VMware by Broadcom. Now the projects are considered unmaintained, and are lined up to be archived. All projects will remain public, read-only OSS repositories available under the Apache v2 licenses for anyone who would like to maintain their own forks.

Bootstrap subdomains no longer hosting salt-bootstrap scripts

With the migration of salt-bootstrap script download locations, to GitHub Releases, winbootstrap.saltproject.io and bootstrap.saltproject.io no longer host bootstrap scripts (as of today)

Upcoming Update to Salt Project Docs GitHub Pages Backend

In continued efforts to improve automation, docs publishing will experience an update on 2024-12-18. Downtime is expected to be minimal.

Upcoming bootstrap subdomain decommission

With the migration of salt-bootstrap script download locations, to GitHub Releases, winbootstrap.saltproject.io and bootstrap.saltproject.io will be decommissioned on 2025-01-06

Salt Install Guide Overhaul and salt-bootstrap updates

The Salt Install Guide has been updated to reflect the Salt package repository migration to packages.broadcom.com, and salt-bootstrap is non-functional as fixes to the scripts are underway.

salt-bootstrap Breakage and Next Steps: New Updates

salt-bootstrap downloads via curl will need to be modified, as salt-bootstrap scripts will need to be downloaded from GitHub Releases instead. Read for details on how to resolve this issue.

Salt Project Package Repository (repo.saltproject.io) Migration and Guidance

This week, packages from repo.saltproject.io will be migrated to packages.broadcom.com. This means a variety of disruptive changes are being implemented around installing, upgrading, and pinning/locking Salt.

The Salt Project will no longer publish new containers of salt to dockerhub, and has archived the saltdocker repository. Community members can access and fork the repository if they wish to create or maintain similar containers.
